Arabic

The Arabic language stands out as one of the most distinguished and unique languages in the world. It is referred to as the “Mother of Languages” due to its depth, meaning, and vastness. Arabic is the language of the Quran and Sunnah, and it contains the religious terminology and vocabulary of Muslims. Without understanding Arabic, it is difficult to comprehend the Islamic system, its teachings, and the immense historical heritage spanning over fourteen centuries. This significant status is the primary reason for the deep connection and interest of Muslims in this language.

Additionally, Arabic is counted among the major languages of the world. After English and French, Arabic ranks as the third-largest language in the world. It is one of the four official languages of the United Nations. A vast portion of the world’s population speaks and understands Arabic, and it serves as the official language of 27 countries.

After the establishment of Government Dyal Singh Graduate College, Lahore, in 1909, the responsibility of teaching Arabic language and literature was initially undertaken by Professor Kishori Mohan Taimoor, a professor of Persian. He served as a professor of Persian in the college in 1909 and later as a professor of both Arabic and Persian until his retirement. The formal establishment of the Arabic Department took place in the 1940s. Consequently, between 1973 and 1974, four lecturers were appointed for the teaching of Arabic language.

Launch of BS Arabic

Among the Public Sector colleges in Punjab, Government Dyal Singh Graduate College holds the unique honor of launching a four-year BS Arabic program in 2022. This achievement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the faculty of the Arabic Department. The program is affiliated with Punjab University, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Pakistan. This affiliation provides BS Arabic students with an excellent opportunity to pursue quality education and training at an affordable fee structure under Punjab University’s academic framework.

The curriculum plays a vital role in the education, training, and character-building of students. A comprehensive and well-structured syllabus produces capable students, refines their personalities, strengthens their character, and enhances their depth of knowledge and intellectual understanding. That is why the BS Arabic curriculum is comprehensive and up-to-date, blending classical and modern themes of Arabic language and literature.
